Men face grooming ideas
Why Men’s Skincare Matters—The earlier you start, the better.
Men are discovering permanent makeup, microblading and nano brows to restore definition around their eyes. With age, their brow hairs are lighter in color, eyebrows are getting thinner, sparse, and loose shape. Their lashes are lighter and thinning out too.
As a Permanent Makeup Artist, while designing their new eyebrows, I ask them a simple question. What is your daily skin care routine? Most common answer: I wash my face with soap morning and night.
Ta Dah!!! That’s the jist of their routine.
It’s Not Just Vanity—It’s Vitality. Looking rugged is no longer in, unless you're rangling in cattle.
For years, skincare has been branded as a woman’s world—but the truth is, healthy skin is not gendered. For men in their 30s and 40s, developing a solid skincare routine isn’t just about looking good. It’s about preserving the health, texture, and resilience of your skin for years to come.
Why Start Early?
Male skin begins to lose collagen and elasticity in your 30s. Sun exposure, stress, and environmental pollutants speed up aging, causing fine lines, uneven tone, and dryness. By the time you hit your 40s, skin cell turnover slows down further. Acting early means you’re not playing catch-up later.
Please note, evening and morning skin care routines are slightly different. The words Lotion and Cream are used interchangeable. However, creams are heavier and thicker in consistency while lotions are more runny and loose. If you put a dollop of lotion on a plate and turn the plate upside down, it will eventually drip. If you put a dollop of cream on a plate and do the same, it should stay on the plate.
1. Evening Washing: The Foundation of Clean Skin
Use a gentle facial cleanser that suits your skin type (oily, dry, combination).
Double cleanse if you did indeed rangle in cattle.
Clear away sweat, oil, and pollutants.
Avoid harsh bar soaps—they strip natural oils and disrupt your skin barrier.
Select a cleanser that doesn’t foam.. Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) free
Why it matters: Clean skin sets the stage for all other products to work better and prevents breakouts and dullness.
2. Evening Moisturizing: Locking in Hydration and Repair Mode Activated
For dry or aging skin, look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin.
Serum with retinol (vitamin A), peptides, or niacinamide goes on first.
Select a night cream, it should be heavier/creamier than day cream.
Ensure your nighttime product matches your skin’s needs—hydration, anti-aging, or oil control.
Why it matters: Your skin repairs itself overnight. Supporting that process enhances renewal and keeps your complexion looking youthful and refreshed. Hydration improves skin texture, plumps fine lines, and helps maintain elasticity.
3. Morning Washing: Your face is already clean. Too much cleansing product can leave your face feeling dry and tight.
Cleanse with warm water, then finish with a cold splash.
No need to use a facial cleanser. Remember, you already cleansed your face at night.
Apply a light day lotion for the face. It is lighter in consistency than night cream.
4. Sun Protection: The Ultimate Anti-Aging Tool
Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher—even when it’s cloudy.
Reapply every 2 hours if you’re outside or sweating.
Consider a moisturizer with built-in SPF for daily convenience.
Why it matters: UV damage is the #1 cause of premature aging, wrinkles, sun spots, and even skin cancer. Nothing undoes progress faster than skipping sunscreen.
Start Now, Reap the Benefits Later
Skincare doesn’t have to be complicated—it just needs to be consistent. Starting in your 30s or early 40s gives you a serious head start. Think of it as investing in your skin’s future. A few minutes each day now can mean firmer, clearer, more vibrant skin well into your later years.
