Canker sores and mouth ulcers; how to avoid and relieve pain

Image
For years, I've been suffering from canker sores. Canker Sores are white ulcers that forms inside the mouth.  They are quite painful and can last 3 to 7 days.  There are many theories about canker sores, however, there's no simple explanation as to how to avoid outbreak. It is important to note that Canker sores are not transferable to others by contact.  Canker Sores differ from Cold Sores (HSV-1) Here are some suggestions as to why you may develop a canker sore: 1.  Fatigue 2.  Stress 3.  Compromise to immune system 4.  Food allergies or sensitivity 5.  Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) Sodium Laurel Sulfate is a detergent in most toothpastes, it provides the foaming action.   It is best for people with canker sores to avoid this ingredient in their mouth.  Foaming detergent will irritate your mouth.  Check the ingredient list on your toothpaste.  So far, the most accessible toothpaste that is SLS free is Biotene for Dry Mouth.  You can purchase at most drugs

Cold sores, herpes (HSV-1) for Lip Permanent Makeup Procedures

Image
Common question asked by Permanent Makeup Artist when performing Lip Blush or Lip Blushing procedures..."Have you ever had cold sores or fever blisters?"  On average, 1 in 3 clients will answer "Yes".  Cold sores are highly contagious and is transferable to others. Cold sores or fever blisters pop up on the lips or surrounding skin around the lips.  You may feel a tingling sensation around the mouth prior to an outbreak.  They are clusters of sores, red in color, and secrete a clear fluid.  They are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1).  HSV carriers have periodic outbreak due to fatigue, stress, compromise to their immune system, over exposure to sun/wind, or  trauma to the lips or mouth area.  Upon outbreak, average duration of time to heal is 2 weeks.  During outbreaks, it is highly contagious to others.   May transfer to others via sharing of utensils, food, toothpaste, kissing, etc... There are over the counter remedies to shorten the duration a

Can my favorite Tattoo artist provide Permanent Makeup Services?

Image
Body tattoo and Permanent Makeup artists receive different training, therefore, clients should be aware that just because one artist can create beautiful art on the body does not guarantee that they will provide good permanent makeup artistry on the face.  The skills needed to draw on your body and face differs significantly.   Our skin on our body may be thicker than the skin on our face.  Therefore, different tools are used. Black pigment should only be used on the face for Eyeliner procedures.  Never on the brows.  Black pigment usually fades blue or grey. Body tattoo artists favor bold and striking colors, while permanent makeup is best when applied subtly and natural in color. I have a client that has numerous body tattoos.  Since her tattoo artist produced beautiful work on her body, she thought it would be ok to let him provide eye brows on her face.  She drew the brows first with a topical brow pencil to provide a template to her artist.  The end result was as e

Permanent Makeup, tattoo and MRI

Image
Tattoo and Permanent Makeup pigment contains Iron Oxide and some has Carbon Oxide. It is not irritant to most skin. Prior to an MRI, the technician may ask if you have any tattoos.  Permanent Makeup is a tattoo.  So your answer would be... Yes. In the simplest term, an MRI machine is a giant magnet that scans your body.  It will detect metals, including Iron Oxide.  If you have a large tattoo on your body, the MRI Technician may put a cool, wet towelette to ease warm sensation. However, the amount of pigment used on Hairstroke brows, liner and lips is minimal.  Therefore, the likelihood of feeling discomfort is not likely.   However, it is helpful if the MRI Tech knows what he/she is looking at.  www.prettypleasestudio.com San Ramon, CA

Permanent Makeup Patch Test: what is it and why it's done.

Image
What is a "Patch Test" or "Allergy Test" and why is it performed? People who are allergic to foods and products are hesitant to get Permanent Makeup.  They are concerned with adverse reactions to the tattoo pigment. Prior to tattooing the face area, the artist can tattoo a small area of the skin that is hidden from plain view.  For example, most common area is behind the client's ear, areas of the body that is usually covered under clothing, or on the client's feet.  After the patch test, the client is instructed to go home and keep a close watch for any excessive swelling, irritation, or feeling nauseous.  This reassures the client, in the event of adverse reaction, their face will not be affected. Here is a list of common ingredients in most tattoo pigments:  Mixture of various inert iron oxides, chromium oxide, titanium dioxide, carmine, and glycerin.   In all the years of practicing Permanent Makeup, I have not encountered clients who

How to look younger without spending any money

My clients often ask me what procedures are out there to help them look younger and fresh. That's always an easy answer for me.  I tell them that many people don't take advantage of the most inexpensive methods to look and feel younger! 1.   EXERCISE vigorously 3 to 4 hours per week.  It's guaranteed to lift and firm everything, increase circulation, and give you an overall glow.  I know I sound like a commercial but it's the simple truth.  After our 20s, gravity has a way of sagging and deflating our face and body.   We really do need to move our body to pump the blood and strengthen our muscles. Exercise won't plump our face like Juviderm or Restalyn, however, it does increase blood circulation and as a result, it benefits your skin. 2.  Drink lots of WATER throughout the day.  Not coffee, soda, or tea, but just water.  Our lips are like plants.  Give it some water, and it instantly plumps up.  Try it and see.  When your lips are dry, not only d
