I have tiny white bumps around my eyes and eyelids. I can't pop them like a whitehead.
Milia are small white bumps that form around the eyes and eyelids. They can form anywhere on the face, but the eye area is the most noticeable. What are they and what can I do to remove them? And most importantly, how do I prevent new ones?
Milia are dead skin cells trapped under your skin and it forms into cysts. They are not painful nor harmful, but they are annoying when applying makeup.
A Dermatologist is your solution. The extraction cost is not covered by most insurance. However, for a fee of $150 to $200, they will quickly pop those suckers out. Most doctors don’t charge by the number of bumps, however, if you have more than 20 or so, it does require more time, so the estimate listed above is a general cost.
The skin is first cleaned/sanitized, then he or she will take a scalpel or a needle to make a tiny incision on the milia. The goal is to create an opening that’s small enough not to scar, but big enough to wiggle the white gummy seed out of the skin. Without the incision, the milia cannot exit the skin. It is not painful and it does not bleed once removed.
How to prevent new growth: Using oils or heavy creams may clog pores. Opt for lighter lotions and oil free products. Gently exfoliate the skin a few times a month.
