Eyebrows Change With Age (What to do!)

Aging has a funny way of keeping both men and women humble. Just when our eyebrows start thinning out, fading in color, and sprouting stubborn gray hairs that seem to have a mind of their own, we may also notice new hairs appearing on the chin or upper lip. Unfortunately, those eager little hairs do not volunteer to move up to the brows!

As we get older, eyebrow hairs naturally become finer, fewer, lighter, and often grayer. Those gray brow hairs can also be coarser, which is why they sometimes stick up like tiny wires. If that happens, resist the urge to pluck them out. Gray hair is still hair, and hair is better than no hair. A simple trim is usually the better choice, helping the brows look neater without sacrificing fullness. For some people, especially those who have experienced alopecia or cancer treatments, eyebrows may never fully return to their original density or shape. But for most of us, aging is the main reason our brows change over time.

The good news is that thin brows do not automatically make you look older. It is really about facial balance. Larger eyes often look more harmonious with fuller, slightly bolder brows, while smaller eyes are usually complemented by softer, more delicate brows. The right shape, size, and color can beautifully frame the eyes.  Who doesn't want a little enhancement and definition.  

If you fill in your brows every day, do not be afraid to experiment. Try different shapes, widths, and shades, then ask friends which version they like best. Don't be afraid to go a little bold.  It does add more color to your face.  You may be surprised by what suits you most.  Most drawn brows will appear thinner for the fear of having a heavy hand.  Always keep the proportion of your eyes in mind when designing the size.

Q: Can I camouflage a scar, area of the skin that's missing pigment, or previous permanent makeup by using skin colored tattoo pigment? Clients with Vitiligo and scar tissues on their body/face request camouflage tattooing to match their natural skin color.  There's always Pros and Cons. Pro:  Tattooing skin colored pigment can conceal or make the area with loss of pigment less noticeable.  There are a lot of vendors with various colors, so you may find a color to match your skin tone.   Con : Your skin may darken or lighten depending on the time of the year, i.e. sun tan. It may be subtle, but your skin varies in darkness/lightness throughout the year.  However,  the Camouflage pigment will remain the same.  It will not tan with you.  Therefore, if the scar/loss of pigmented area is on your body that gets exposed to sun light,  this may not be a good solution for you. Common question asked by Permanent Makeup Artist when performing Lip Blush or Lip Blushing procedures..."Have you ever had cold sores or fever blisters?"  On average, 1 in 3 clients will answer "Yes".  Cold sores are highly contagious and is transferable to others. Cold sores or fever blisters pop up on the lips or surrounding skin around the lips.  You may feel a tingling sensation around the mouth prior to an outbreak.  They are clusters of sores, red in color, and secrete a clear fluid.  They are caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1).  HSV carriers have periodic outbreak due to fatigue, stress, compromise to their immune system, over exposure to sun/wind, or  trauma to the lips or mouth area.  Upon outbreak, average duration of time to heal is 2 weeks.  During outbreaks, it is highly contagious to others.   May transfer to others via sharing of utensils, food, toothpaste, kissing, etc...
