When Chemotherapy Steals Your Brows (Rude.)

Cancer already takes enough from a man. Your energy. Your time. Your patience. And then—just to be extra disrespectful—it sometimes takes your hair too. Head hair, body hair, and yes… eyebrows.

Most men know the deal with head hair: it may grow back, it may come back curlier, straighter, darker, lighter, or with a whole new personality. Brows, though? Brows are divas. Those hair follicles are far more delicate, and they don’t always bounce back the way we hope.

The result? Sparse brows. Missing tails (the ends of the brows). Or brows that look like they quietly retired without telling you.

Why Brows Matter More Than You Think

You might not have paid much attention to your eyebrows before—but once they’re gone or thinned out, wow. Brows frame your eyes. They give you expression. They keep you from looking permanently surprised, tired, or vaguely confused.  And something that we don't think about...Eyebrows break up the forehead.  Without brows, your forehead can look enormous.

And let’s be honest: most men are not excited about the idea of drawing their eyebrows on every morning.

Sure, there are brow pencils and powders that look natural in theory. But in real life?

Basic Questions to Ask a Permanent Makeup Artist Prior to Scheduling an Appointment: Q1:   Are you OSHA Compliant? If the Artist is NOT Occupational Safety and Health Authorization (OSHA) compliant, take your business elsewhere.  This is basic requirement for every Permanent Makeup business in the state of California and most other states.   An annual inspection and testing is necessary to be granted a certificate to operate by the County Health Services. Q: Can I camouflage a scar, area of the skin that's missing pigment, or previous permanent makeup by using skin colored tattoo pigment? Clients with Vitiligo and scar tissues on their body/face request camouflage tattooing to match their natural skin color.  There's always Pros and Cons. Pro:  Tattooing skin colored pigment can conceal or make the area with loss of pigment less noticeable.  There are a lot of vendors with various colors, so you may find a color to match your skin tone.   Con : Your skin may darken or lighten depending on the time of the year, i.e. sun tan. It may be subtle, but your skin varies in darkness/lightness throughout the year.  However,  the Camouflage pigment will remain the same.  It will not tan with you.  Therefore, if the scar/loss of pigmented area is on your body that gets exposed to sun light,  this may not be a good solution for you.
